About Us
What the Nambour Yoga Centre is About
We are a community of teachers and practitioners who love and are passionate about sharing the gifts of Ashtanga Yoga and Yoga Therapy through daily classes, workshops and teacher trainings.
Our Sanga (community) is one that is constantly growing and evolving and our mission is to share the teachings of yoga from an authentic and traditional place as was taught to us.
We aim to distill the ancient wisdom of yoga through practice and connection and honour the origins of these teachings from South India.
Who We Are
Studio Owner & Director, Michelle Freeman
Michelle has been teaching yoga, meditation and healing modalities for over 14 years and is the owner of the Nambour Yoga Centre. She began her Ashtanga yoga practice in 2009 and has studied and trained under many teachers over the years including Dena Kingsberg, Santina Guidina Chard, Mark Togni, Olivier David, Kino McGregor and Tim Feldman. Her teaching is compassionate and knowledgeable, with an experiential understanding of the body after practicing yoga for over 25 years and having studied and practiced Zen Thai Shiatsu bodywork. She is currently studying Yoga Therapy and Clinical Exercise Physiology to deepen this understanding of the body and biomechanics from a therapeutic side and makes regular trips to India to study Ashtanga yoga and philosophy with her teacher, Dr. Vidwan Vijaya Kumar.
Michelle teaches from a place of honouring each person who steps on their mat as they are, and gently guiding them into the vulnerable, joyous and sometimes confronting realms of yoga. She believes in sharing yoga as a sound physical and embodied practice with deep spiritual resonance that can help people in their darkest times, using yoga as a tool for healing and powerful transformation.
